My holiday portrait (for my Libertarian friends)

In case you've been wondering, I've taken on a new hobby -- tweaking the local Libertarian crowd, mostly at the blog of my good friend, the Whited Sepulchre. While I don't always (or even often) agree, the debate is lively and intelligent. In fact, some of my best writing these days is at his site, not mine (irony of ironies).

The other day, I accorded the distinct honor of being the token Democrat guest blogger while the Whited Sepulchre was on vacation.

For the most part the local Libertarian crowd are an intelligent, thoughtful bunch, passionate about their cause and ready to talk, sort of like political Jehovah's Witnesses. While not agreeing with them, I admire their commitment to the cause.

One thing I've noted on various occasions is their hang-up with my icon. "As your hero, Trotsky..." they'll begin, as they spin some long drawn-out rant property rights. (By the way, this is Trotsky. As I've pointed out numerous times, any resemblance is all in their minds--my picture is much better looking. But I digress.)

Over the holidays, I had a new portrait taken. While I'm not quite ready to swap it out for the current icon, I thought I would post it.

I've often been tempted to reply, "What would you say if my icon was Sponge Bob Squarepants?" Now I'll just refer people to this picture.

Update: although the above portrait is creepy, after a night's reflection (and my comment to the returning Whited Sepulchre below) I thought I could improve on it, making it even more creepy yet Libertarian-friendly. Enjoy!

The mind recoils....
Bob Barr and Trotsky.
And the funny thing about it?
Barr might not get the joke.

I am so impressed with your metaphor that the Invisible Hand is as real as Intelligent Design. I am going to use that henceforth. I have been searching for some method of verbalizing my belief.

Dr. Liz -- Glad I could contribute to the ongoing debate. Some times these things seem so obvious in hindsight.

WS -- Does this mean you have finished cruising? Thanks for the honor of being the token Democrat in your absence. Most of your other guests tolerated my verbal jousting more or less good-naturedly. Hopefully they realize the more they debate with the likes of me the more opportunities they have to put forth their talking points. And if they can't out-argue the likes of me... well, woe be unto them.

As to my "new portrait" -- I tried several versions (people get so hung up on the Trotsky thing), including Washington and Jefferson. Then I hit on the Bob Barr image.

The finished product looks truly creepy to me. The only thing I could think of that might be more creepy would be Ron Paul.

I almost blew coffee out the nose after seeing that "portrait", Doc! Good one! :^)

WS / Browncoat (et. al.) See the even newer portrait I posted below the first. It's designed to appeal to the LP folks who consider Bob Barr a carpetbagger.

Feel the love.
