My 2012 Resolutions

Now that 2011 has come and gone, I've decided to take some time before heading back to work to come up with some New Year's resolutions for 2012. I've never had much luck in the past with keeping resolutions, so my first resolution is to only resolve to do things that I stand half a chance of achieving. That being said...

I resolve to lose 20 pounds by the end of the year. This sounds hard but isn't. What's hard is keeping it off. Amazon's MP3 store has a slew of weigh-loss auto-suggestion audio files which you listen to while going to sleep at night. I managed to lose about 10 pounds before the holidays doing this - time to get back on track.

I resolve to paint more. I've got a MFA in painting, and these days I hardly ever pick up a brush. To go along with that...

I resolve to clean out my studio and keep it clean. This means getting rid of a ridiculous amount of crap that currently live in my studio. The problem is that I'm a world class pack rat and I'm easily distracted -- a bad combo. The fact that a large percentage of my art has my personal clutter as subject matter doesn't help, either.

I resolve to write more. Writing blog posts doesn't count. A few years ago I wrote a novel (someday I'll self-publish it as an eBook). Since then I've made several starts on another but never got too far. This is the year for Book Two. I may even start going back to the writer's group I used to belong to.

I resolve to blog more regularly. This is in addition to starting a new novel. I tend to go in spurts with my blogging, and am not very disciplined, and when I do write something, more often then not it's a rant. No more rants. We'll see how long that lasts. Just to make it tougher...

I resolve not to argue about politics. The world is full enough as it is of opinionated blowhards. It being an election year, this one will be especially challenging. If I can't resist the urge to blog about something of a political nature, I further resolve to resist the urge to be rabidly partisan. And I'll avoid posting comments elsewhere altogether.

...So there you are. I'm set for failure!

Doc,
Regarding that last resolution....Did you know that Barack Obama is a Communist? And he has a Russian flag on the wall in his garage?

WS - you, sir, are the Devil.

The. Devil.

I don't care what kind of flag adorns his garage wall; it's Obama's stance on intellectual property and copyright that rackles me. Unfortunately, the alternatives ( including the ranks of supposed Libertarian wannabes ) are just as bad, if not worse.

Google "SOPA," then search for Cory Doctorow on YouTube.

How about it--have you taken action yet on that 1950s retro chrome diner chair made in USA?
