Rest in Peace, Edward Kennedy

I don't have time for a long post (trying to get out of town -- to Washington, ironically) when I learned that Edward Kennedy, a true lion of the Senate, passed away at the age of 77.

Yahoo's Reuter feed has more, but I dare say you'll find tons of stories all over the 'net.

By now you've at least heard about Thursday's Daily Show, wherein Jon Stewart pulled off his foolscap and grilled former hedge-fund trader turned business entertainer Jim Cramer about CNBC's (and the business news networks in general) failure to rise above mindlessly parroting the lies and half-truths fed them by the folks who brought you our current financial fiasco. These should  be so self-evident they need no further discussion but since some disputatious dick-weed is probably composing a response already... The weapons on this assault are copyright laws and the murky idea of "intellectual property," Rich powerful corporations hiding behind familiar and friendly names are leading this assault. It pains me to say, this unsavory alliance cuts across political lines: Democrats and Republicans are both guilty. A little history: " copyright " is the right of a creator of an original work to control distribution for a certain time period, after which it falls into the "public domain."
