Mike Huckabee: I'm (still) not a homophobe. Riiight
Former Arkansas Governor/Baptist Preacher Mike Huckabee has the "aw shucks" act down pat.
He can spew the most incredibly offensive drivel imaginable and still sound like a reasonable, well-intention person. I bet if he'd been in Salem, Massachusetts he'd have convinced those poor women they deserved to be burned as witches.
Brother Huckabee recently compared efforts to legalize same-sex marriage to legalizing incest, polygamy and drug use.
He's quoted in The Perspective (student publication of The College of New Jersey), as saying, "You don't go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal...That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of people who like to use drugs, so let's go ahead and accommodate those who want to use drugs. There are some people who believe in incest, so we should accommodate them. There are people who believe in polygamy, so we should accommodate them."
Afterwards, Huckabee took umbrage at the nerve of the student journalist who'd authored the article , claiming his remarks had been "distorted" (ol' Mike had also diss'ed Michael Steele, RNC chair).
I believe this is referred to in the trade as the non-denial denial.
He also attempted a bitch-slap at the student journalist, sneering, "The young college student hopefully will find a career other than journalism."
But wait -- the Perspective has put an audio of the Huckabee interview on their site! Oh Snap!
Smilin' Mike forgets the Internet is the great equalizer, at least when it comes to getting your message out.
I'll say this for ol' Mike: he's consistent. He's been offering up his home-spun homophobic bullshit for a while. Here's Jon Stewart calling him on it on the Daily Show.

Huckabee has faith (or at least hides behind a perceived faith) that homosexuality is the work of Satan.
He'll argue it until he's blue in the face. Or until he gets caught with his pants down in a hotel room.
And what's wrong with polygamy?
Gar - I noticed he neglected to include bestiality in his list of immoral behaviors. A simple omission or...?
Perhaps this would have struck a little too close to his base. I'm just sayin'...
